Our Sausalito Legacy

Casa Madrona Hotel & Spa was built in 1885 as a lavish hillside residence, then transformed into the original Casa Madrona hotel in 1906. From its glamorous past as a celebrity hideaway to its near-demolition—and restoration—in the 1970s, the property’s spirit and charm was preserved across the decades. A complete renovation in 2010 by MetWest Terra brought new life to this bayside gem, integrating contemporary innovation and technology with a gracious nod to the hotel’s historic past.

In 2024 Casa Madrona was inducted into Historic Hotels of America®. Casa Madrona Hotel & Spa joins more than 300 hotels and resorts throughout the country that are recognized by Historic Hotels of America for preserving and maintaining their historic integrity, architecture and ambiance. To be selected for membership, a hotel must be at least 50 years old, have been designated by the U.S. Secretary of the Interior as a National Historic Landmark or listed in or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places, and recognized as having historic significance.
